Fixing and preparing our trip with our Kombi
Me and my wife decided to get ready for a trip with our Kombi Volkswagen. With the pandemic going on it is better to take off for a trip through the Andes of Peru ( Arequipa - Cuzco - Ayacucho) and the Jungle. Our kombi T2 Volkswagen is from 1981, I already have it since 2014. Before we start this adventure we must fix and replace many accessories in Arequipa. I have experienced with all the classic mechanical failures and gained some knowledge of the basics for this trip. Our main goal is to travel to less visited spots - villages - communities of Peru and meet locals artist who we can work with for our RURU ARTS PROYECT. I will be taking photos along the journey for my project ANDES PHOTOGRAPHY. We will share these experience with you.
Repairing Metal and a New Paint.
The conditions of the metal and paint were not good, therefore I decided to paint the same colors, white and red. A friend from Arequipa, Jimmy "el planchador", helped me to do this work and I spent 2 weeks being his assistant. We also repaired some rust on the windows and reinforce the back door of the engine. The final work was great!.
Mechanical Repairs
I want to make sure things are fine with the Kombi and a mechanic friend from Arequipa, Jorge, will do this job. For safety I have replaced the steering box, renew the brakes, changed the front break hoses, changed the CV joints, greased the steering racks and pinions. Also, a general maintenance of the generator, motor starter, the carburetor, old cables, oil change of the engine. I have also bought new tires, 2 extra tires, new led light for the front, I have also bought new front mirrors. Once all of this was done I have made car inspection test which it passed and got its certificate.
